Lisa Vanderpump Pulled Out All the Stops to Celebrate India Decriminalizing Homosexuality

"What an incredible evening celebrating the advancement of LGBTQ rights," the RHOBH activist shared.

Lisa Vanderpump has always been a champion for social causes, from animal rescue to LGBTQ rights, and her latest bash is a culmination of her love for social justice. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills philanthropist hosted an event in honor of India decriminalizing homosexuality in legislation last month. On September 6, the supreme court abolished section 377 of the Indian constitution which banned gay sex, according to the Toronto Sun.

And LVP certainly pulled out all the stops to applaud the decision. The activist joined forces with Lance Bass and the Los Angeles LGBT Center for the Indian-themed party "to celebrate the decriminalization of homosexuality in India... In September 2018, after 24 years of legal challenges, India's highest court officially decriminalized homosexuality. It is estimated that up to 8% of India's population identifies as LGBTQ which is estimated at 104 million people. Prior to this historic overturn by the court, the law banned sex considered "against the order and nature" and resulted in thousands being prosecuted. However, prison was not only one of the risks, many found themselves to be intimidated, blackmailed or even abused due to the law. We applaud India for taking this positive step in the right direction for LGBTQ rights globally and we hope that other governments that still lack LGBTQ rights will look to India and elsewhere around the globe as positive beacons of light in the continued fight for progress," she shared on Instagram.

Lisa hosted the event at PUMP and looked incredible in traditional Indian attire. "What an incredible evening celebrating the advancement of LGBTQ rights in India and the decriminalization of homosexuality. Such a beautiful night honoring India’s culture!" she wrote.

She added, "As the world slowly comes to its senses, thank you India for taking this step forward, and Japan following suit, we must continue to stand strong for LGBTQ rights in our country too."
